Game of Thrones Power Shift: Daenerys’ Dragon Drama

Poor khaleesi. Will she ever get back to Westeros and rule the seven kingdoms of Westeros?

On Sunday’s Game of Thrones, Daenerys suffered a major setback that could hurt her bid to win back the Iron Throne. But is she the only one who faltered? Who prevailed?  breaks down the power shifts in “The Old Gods and the New“: Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams: Arya becomes a bit psychotic

Power Tripping

Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen): In order to impress his father Balon, Theon takes Winterfell by force, turning on the people who raised him as a ward/hostage. They don’t take his betrayal seriously, though, until he decides to prove himself ironborn and kill Ser Rodrik for being lippy. It takes him at least four sloppy hacks to behead the master at arms.

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams): She had Jaqen H’ghar kill Amory Lorch for the second of three deaths owed to her and also got access to some of Lord Tywin’s written battle plans. What she’s able to do with them remains to be seen.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington): Although he can’t find it in himself to kill Ygritte, the Wildling they captured, he does take her prisoner, and, judging by her secret smile, earns her respect.

Power Failure

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke): She underestimates someone in Qarth, who not only slaughters many in her khalasar, but also steals her dragons, her most powerful barganing chips. What will the mother of dragons do now?

Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright): Forced to yield Winterfell to Theon, Bran and his younger brother Rickon later flee on foot with their direwolves, Osha and Hodor.

Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson): For the first time, the teen tyrant experiences his people’s discontent firsthand when someone flings excrement at him. His outraged reaction to “kill them all” leads to an uprising that endangers himself as well as his courtiers.

Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner): In the Jeffrey-incited riot, she gets parted from the group and is attacked and almost raped by several men before The Hound saves her.
